We are looking for a few good people to join us as we move to create a new business space on the internet for those doing business in Africa and those interested in doing business in Africa.  These are currently UNPAID positions, however there are incentives that might interest some.

Here are the positions we are looking to fill:

Managing Editors

The Managing Editors will, in consultation with the Executive Editor, coordinate the day to day decisions regarding the editorial content, manage the editorial staff, and implement and administer the editorial budget. The Managing Editor will work with the Editorial Board on staffing decisions and launching new editorial initiatives and features. The Managing Editor will also be a key liaison between the Editorial, Web and Marketing departments to ensure all projects are executed within the greater editorial vision in an efficient and timely manner.

Webdesign/Graphic Designer – Contract

The Web Designer will work with the lead creative strategist and Webmaster for Diaspora Interactive Media’s online presence and new media technologies. S/he will learn how to develop a comprehensive Internet and multimedia strategy in collaboration with PoliticsAfrica.coms management team to establish and maintain a rich interactive experience for PoliticsAfrica.com. audiences through its Web sites and e- newsletters.

The designer will harness the power of social networking for PoliticsAfrica.com. and research new digital technologies and tools that PoliticsAfrica.com can adapt to extend its online reach. This individual will design and implement systems and protocols to best serve the multimedia technology needs of our multifaceted,business while ensuring consistency of PoliticsAfrica.coms online look and feel. This unpaid position is for the up and coming graphics/web designer that is looking to position to position themselves for a successful future in the business, by working with one of the best and gaining exposure for their own business.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and publish Web pages for multiple brands.
  • Develop multimedia components for the Web site, including photographs, audio and video.
  • Help coordinate management, maintenance and accessibility of PoliticsAfrica.com. Web site content.
  • Assess, update, maintain and ensure functionality of Web site and servers.
  • Research, develop and implement search engine optimization (SEO) strategies, social networking opportunities (such as Facebook, Flickr and blogs) and other digital tools and technologies.
  • Configure e-newsletters, e-mail messages, event postings and other online communications to subscribers and other e-mail lists.
  • Monitor, analyze and report on Web site, e-newsletter and other electronic communications usage data and work with staff to achieve continuous quality improvement of our online products and services.
  • Find, diagnose and fix Web site problems, including broken links, errors and formatting inconsistencies.
  • Recommend, assess and itemize costs for Web site enhancements and new technologies.
  • Develop, implement and enforce Web use and privacy policies.
  • Provide other multimedia communications support.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in a variety of Web content development and programming tools and languages, such as Contribute and Dreamweaver, JavaScript, HTML or comparable.
  • Ability to learn new products and technology quickly.
  • Ability to generate creative and dynamic multimedia content for Web pages, media alerts, event announcements and outreach messages.

Sales Director(B2B) – PoliticsAfrica.com.

PoliticsAfrica.com, a growing and leading publisher serving the African Diaspora and Africa, is seeking an knowledgable and motivated advertising sales leader to spearhead its ad and sponsorship sales in 2009 and beyond. The right candidate will have a good knowledge of ad sales that reflects a dynamic, confident, results-oriented approach for delivering creative solutions for advertisers.

PoliticsAfrica.com is looking to develop a blue-chip roster of clients representing a broad spectrum of advertisers in the market today. We’re looking for someone who can build the business further by fostering relationships and create new revenue opportunities for the company.

This role requires engagement with senior level clients and agency decision- makers, and proven skills in identifying opportunities, creating and negotiating deals, and in driving large revenue deals. The right candidate will be both entrepreneurial and highly competitive and will represent the company at industry events and conferences.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, prospect, and close key accounts
  • Consistently meet or exceed sales goals
  • Work collaboratively with the key people in the company and industry

Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year digital/ online advertising sales experience, preferably within the ad industry vertical
  • Authoritative knowledge of industry, emerging technologies, and best practices for digital ad campaigns A passion for excellence, honesty, diligence and service orientation
  • Collaborative nature and excellent sales negotiating skills

Events Intern

As the Events intern, you will get guidance from the Marketing department with a primary focus on finding and logging key industry and market events around the world. You may also be asked to maintain some key company databases.

Social Networking/SEO Intern

This internship is for the individual who is interested in Online Marketing therefore familiarity with, and basic understanding of how traffic is generated on our portals. General website production and previous work with databases will also be helpful. Hours are flexible, but as the Social Networking/SEO intern you will get guidance from the Marketing department with a primary focus on tagging key content to help improve SEO results and building our brand presence in social network spaces like Facebook and Myspace.

This internship is for the individual who is interested in Online Social Network Marketing and SEO therefore familiarity with, and basic understanding of SEO is preferred. General website production and previous work with databases will also be helpful. Hours are Flexible but you must accumulate at least 10 hours on a weekly basis.

Intelligence Director – PoliticsAfrica.com.

PoliticsAfrica.com. is looking for an Intelligence Director to act as our database editor. S/He will build and maintain its internal and external online databases within the realm of African Business and Politics.

The ideal candidate has at least year of experience developing and maintaining databases (e.g., Excel or Access) and excellent written and oral English communication skills. Responsibilities: maintaining databases and data feeds, monitoring the timeliness and accuracy of automated updates of data. Responding to queries from subscribers regarding the data’s scope and limitations, and assisting IT staff and data sources to identify and correct inaccurate or incomplete data. The database editor is also responsible for monitoring real time changes affecting the information reported by government officials, businesses and content partners.

Attention to detail and a passion for accuracy are essential. Africa related experience, and an entrepreneurial mindset are preferred. This position reports directly to the Executive Editor. The position is unpaid, however there are performance bonuses and profit sharing opportunities attached to this position.

Director of European Operations – PoliticsAfrica.com.

This position is equivalent to that of a Business Development manager. The incumbent is responsible for introducing our business to and identifying targets as potential partners, clients, and/or financiers, cultivate client relationships, maintain database records on clients and meet with clients as the face of Diaspora Interactive Media Corporation in Europe. This individual will work very closely to and report to the CEO.

Qualifications: We are looking for motivated professionals with 2 – 5 years of public relations and/or business development experience, cold-calling and sales experience. Familiarity with the African Communities in Europe is a requirement. Successful candidates will be capable of performing research to identify targets, engage in “cold-calling” and have the ability to establish and cultivate business relationships with executives, team members and potential partners.

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated success working in the professional services sector with public relations experience working with Fortune 500 companies. Exceptional communication skills are required. We are looking for energetic candidates who are solution-oriented, self-motivated, highly driven and determined goal setters. Candidates should present a confident demeanor, a broad perspective and the ability to listen. Candidates must have the ability to work independently while acting as a team-player. This is a commission/Bonus based position with the potential for full time employment. Profit Sharing is available to the incumbent as well.

Director of Africa Operations – PoliticsAfrica.com.

This position is equivalent to that of a Business Development manager. The incumbent is responsible for introducing our business to and identifying targets as potential partners, clients, and/or financiers, cultivate client relationships, maintain database records on clients and meet with clients as the face of Diaspora Interactive Media Corporation in Africa. This individual will work very closely to and report to the CEO.
